It was a Super 14 April 2019 for Harsheel Dani as the Mumbai youngster won the 20th Victor Dutch International Badminton title at Wateringen Netherlands. The tall southpaw recorded a thrilling come-from-behind victory to claim his first Dutch title. In a well-contested men’s singles summit clash, eighth seed Dani edged past Denmark’s Mads Christophersen 15-21, 21-12, 21-13 in 47 minutes.
The tall Mumbai lad dropped a game for the first time in the tournament but that did not stop him from clinching the title with a three-game win on 14 April 2019. However, the tall Dane could not continue his form and succumbed to the onslaught from Dani. The 22-year-old Dani staged a remarkable comeback after losing the opener to pocket a memorable crown.
Dani, ranked 111 in the world, had a sluggish start and lost the first game at 21-15. Christophersen, who is world No. 149, capitalized on few unforced errors from Dani to take a one game lead. The Mumbai lad was out of action for nearly eight months last year due to major foot surgery. Dani dished out his trademark powerful backhand smashes and flawless dribbles to grab the next two games quite easily.
