National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) has signed with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a public sector enterprise, on a pilot project to supply sanitary napkins to students. The project has been allocated an amount of Rs.71.82 lakh given by the BDL as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Under the project, sanitary napkins will be provided to 11,516 students free of cost through a team of volunteers and female teachers of 75 schools in Gandipet, Moinabad, Rajendranagar, Serilingampally and Shamshabad mandals of the Telangana State.
The project aims to create awareness and hygiene on menstruation and menstrual hygiene among children in government schools in Telangana. The objective includes information dissemination on safe disposal mechanism of sanitary napkins without affecting the environment.
It aims to drive them towards fruitful education without absenteeism and health hazards. BDL has prepared a communication material in both Telugu and English, which may be useful for other women in the villages too. It is likely to be expanded to 22 more mandals in the next phases depending upon the results.
