The Indian postal department has released a special stamp cover titled Golden girls of India – Pride of Nation during a district-level philatelic exhibition in Agartala to honor the sporting personalities in the country.The special covers feature the 2016 Olympic medalist gymnast Dipa Karmakar, shuttler PV Sindu and wrestler Sakshi Malik. They were also awarded the nation’s highest sports award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2016. Besides the three, the cover also depicted the image of Dipa’s coach Bishweshwar Nandi who was awarded the 2016 Dronacharya award. The Agartala-born girl is the first Indian female gymnast ever to qualify for an Olympics final. She missed out on a medal by a whisker attaining the fourth position in Women’s Vaults finals in Rio de Janeiro last year. Known for her death defying Produnova vault, Karmakar is also the first female gymnast from India to bag a bronze at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.She was accompanied by her coach Bishweshwar Nandi who has also found a proud place alongside his protege in one of the images.
